Azul Football Club delivered a standout performance at the prestigious Dana Cup in Denmark, proudly representing the UAE on one of Europe’s biggest youth football stages.

Held in Hjørring, just outside Aalborg, the tournament took place last month, drawing over 90 countries and hundreds of teams across various age categories. It was the first time the Dana Cup featured participation from the UAE, with Azul’s Under-13 and Under-17 teams making their mark in style.

Head of Football, Liam Hughes said;

“To see both teams compete at this level shows how quality coaching and structured development pathways support player growth.”

Perfect Group Stage Records

Both Azul squads dominated their respective group stages, finishing top without conceding a single goal. The U13s tallied five goals from five different scorers across three matches, while the U17s found the net eight times, including a five-goal haul by standout striker Levi Sparrow-Edwards.

With a flawless nine points from a possible nine, both teams advanced to the Gold Cup knockout rounds, a testament to their preparation, tactical discipline, and quality coaching.

Knockout Drama and Lessons in Tournament Football

Azul’s U13 team battled through a tense Round of 32 match against Mexican opposition, ending 0–0 before a decisive penalty shootout. Midfielder Jack Brown, having missed a previous spot-kick, showed composure to score the winning penalty and send his team through.

Their tournament run ended in the last 16 after a narrow 2–0 defeat to a Mexican side that capitalised on set pieces—a performance that underscored the value of game management in tight knockout fixtures.

Meanwhile, the U17s were knocked out by a strong Danish team who eventually lost in the final to a Brazilian powerhouse. Despite the exit, Azul’s players demonstrated quality that placed them alongside some of the tournament’s elite sides.

With international exposure now under their belts, Azul’s young talents return home better prepared for the 2025/26 season.
