Tournament hailed as key platform for rising talent ahead of DP World ILT20 Season 4
The Sharjah Warriorz Development team edged out Desert Vipers Development by four runs in a nail-biting final to lift the trophy at the DP World ILT20 Development Tournament, concluding a thrilling third edition that showcased the best of emerging Emirati cricket talent.
The tournament, which featured development sides from all six DP World ILT20 franchises, has quickly become a vital stepping-stone for local players aiming to break into professional ranks. Organisers and franchise officials have praised the competition’s growing influence, both as a domestic highlight and a launchpad for international careers.
“Premier event” for local cricket
Andrew Russell, Tournament Director of the Development Tournament, described it as “the premier event in the domestic circuit,” thanks to the full participation of ILT20 franchises.
Russell said;
“It’s a great opportunity for players to show what they’ve got to the franchise teams for possible selection”

He made clear the tournament’s importance as a talent pipeline for the UAE’s professional and national setups. “Franchises are getting a lot of information… Players like Khuzaima Tanveer and Saghir Khan came through this platform, performed well, and advanced to the main event. They’ve entered the selection pool for both franchise teams and the UAE national side,” he added.
Growing depth, rising intensity
David White, CEO of DP World ILT20, praised both the quality and competitiveness of the matches.
“The quality of cricket has been excellent. Around seven of the games went down to the very last ball, which is quite incredible,” he said.
“This tournament is a stepping-stone for players to put their name forward and, after strong performances here, hopefully be picked at the DP World ILT20 Season 4 Player Auction,” White continued. “It builds depth for cricket in this region.”
Regional impact beyond UAE borders
The development tournament is also shaping cricket’s growth across the Gulf.
“Kuwait has launched its own development competition this year, with their players also entering the auction,” White noted. “This reflects how quickly the game is expanding in this part of the world.”
Russell also reflected on the growth of grassroots talent. “Compared to five or six years ago, the percentage [of homegrown players] is phenomenal. These players are coming through initiatives like the schools’ cup and other development programmes,” he said.
The fourth season of the DP World ILT20 will launch with a blockbuster opener on Tuesday, 2 December 2025 – coinciding with UAE National Day (Eid Al-Etihad) – and will culminate with the final on Sunday, 4 January 2026.
