The stage is set for the 8th edition of the Vice President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup, one of the UAE’s most prestigious domestic martial arts events, taking place from August 30–31 at Shabab Al Ahli Club in Dubai. Organised by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, this year’s championship carries a prize pool exceeding AED 1 million, set to reward the top three winners across multiple categories.
The two-day event will showcase talent from leading clubs and academies across the Emirates, including Al Wahda, Al Jazira, Al Ain, Baniyas, Shabab Al Ahli, Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club, ADMA, and M.O.D UAE. A strong lineup of ranked athletes is expected to compete in four key divisions: Adults, Under-18, Under-16, and Under-14.
A Key Fixture in UAE’s Jiu-Jitsu Calendar
The Vice President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup is widely regarded as a cornerstone of the UAE’s competitive jiu-jitsu calendar. It stands alongside major national events such as the Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup, the Mother of the Nation Jiu-Jitsu Cup, and the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, H.E. Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri said:
“The Vice President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup is an important fixture in the domestic season. Over the years, it has elevated the level of competition between clubs, supported player development, and consistently provided opportunities for new talents to emerge and represent the UAE on the international stage.”
‘Develops core skills’
Athletes compete by weight class instead of belt rank, creating dynamic matchups and opportunities for less experienced fighters to face seasoned opponents.
“This structure develops core skills and prepares athletes for higher-level competition,” Al Dhaheri added, highlighting the Federation’s commitment to technical excellence and athlete progression.
As excitement builds for this weekend’s event, fans and community members alike will be watching closely to see which rising stars and seasoned fighters claim victory—and a share of the million-dirham prize fund.
