The first-ever Dubai Open Karate Championship brought together over 280 athletes from across the UAE at Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club’s indoor arena. Over the course of the weekend, competitors faced off in Kata and Kumite across multiple age divisions, showcasing skills.
Organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and the UAE Karate Federation, with support from Mentor Sports Academy, the event delivered a smooth, high-quality experience for both participants and spectators.
Thirteen teams participated—including three government clubs and nine private academies. Strong logistical planning ensured a seamless schedule and consistent officiating. For a debut tournament, the level of competition and coordination reflected careful preparation and high standards.
His Excellency Major General Eng. Nasser Abdul Razzaq Al Razooqi, President of both the UAE and Asian Karate Federations and Vice President of the International Karate Federation, led the closing ceremony.
He commended the championship’s wide participation and praised its value in developing the sport.
“The UAE Karate Federation will continue to offer full technical and logistical backing for future editions,” he said.
Ahmed Salem Al Mahri, Director of DSC’s Sports Talent Department, noted the value of the championship in identifying athletes for national teams.
“The participation of over 280 male and female players reflects how crucial this platform is for spotting emerging talent,” he said.

Young Athletes Deliver Standout Performances
Moataz Al Salam, Tournament Director and Talent Care Programme Coordinator, highlighted the success of the youth categories despite logistical challenges. He pointed to several promising athletes who caught the attention of national selectors:
- Hamza Abdul Salam (Junior)
- Rashid Al Hajjaj (Cadet)
- Faisal Al Khalidi
- Saif Al Qaidi
- Khalifa Al Kindi
Their skill and composure under pressure positioned them as strong candidates for future international competition.
Athletes of determination also competed in the championship, reinforcing the organisers’ commitment to inclusive participation. This approach aligns with Dubai’s sports vision, which prioritises community integration and equal access to athletic platforms.
